Seeing God Today

Yesterday I was watching my little grand-daughter, Aliyah, run around the yard, playing in the sun. As she made all the delightful faces, I saw the face of God reflected in her smile!

She would laugh at the wind, squint at the sun, run in the grass and try to catch her shadow! So precious! Everything was new to her and brought her such "unbridled" joy! Her laugh was so "heartfelt" and "rich"...it made us laugh too! She smiled, we smiled....she laughed, we laughed...

A few weeks ago, my husband came home and asked me if I had heard a song, "I saw God today". I had not, so we proceeded to checkout the itunes melodies and find the song. George Strait does such a great joy singing the song (here's the YouTube link- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V7NDLJca-Xw , starts at marker number :38).

The chorus goes like this:

I've been to church
I've read the book
I know He's here, but I don't look
near as often as I should
Yeah, I know I should
His fingerprints are everywhere
I'd just slow down to stop and stare
opened my eyes and man I swear
I saw God today

It made me wonder....What does God really look like? Does it really matter what color his eyes, skin or hair is? No, and I'm so glad the same rules apply to me! He doesn't care where I was born, who my parents were, what I look like, where I work, before he accepts me...loves me!

Simple, Kind, Loving, Merciful, Fun, Forgiving, Gracious, Helpful, and the list goes on....that is what HE is. His true self. I want my "true self" to look like that!

Jesus referred to the Christians as "his little children". He informed us to be "little children" or we would in no wise enter into the kingdom of God! (Luke 18:17) And in Matthew 18:3-4 He said:

And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven. Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven. And whoso shall receive one such little child in my name receiveth me.

I want to keep my "child-like" faith. I want to grow up, but at the same time keep my dependency and trust in my "heavenly father".

To see him on this earth, we have to see him in his creation....US!

A friend (thanks Shari!) sent me this little story this week....it is a perfect ending to this little jot of writing.....

A little boy wanted to meet God. He knew it was a long trip to where God lived, so he packed his suitcase with Twinkies and a six-pack of Root Beer and he started his journey. When he had gone about three blocks, he met an elderly man. The man was sitting in the park just feeding some pigeons. The boy sat down next to him and opened his suitcase. He was about to take a drink from his root beer when he noticed that the man looked hungry, so he offered him a Twinkie. The man gratefully accepted it and smiled at the the boy. His smile was so pleasant that the boy wanted to see it again, so he offered him a root beer. Again, the man smiled at him. The boy was delighted! They sat there all afternoon eating and smiling, but they never said a word. As it grew dark, the boy realized how tired he was and he got up to leave, but before he had gone more than a few steps, he turned around, ran back tot he man, and gave him a hug. The man gave him his biggest smile ever! When the boy opened the door to his own house a short time later, his mother was surprised by the look of joy on his face. She asked him, "What did you do today that made you so happy?" He replied, "I had lunch with God." But before his mother could respond, he added, "You know what? God's got the most beautiful smile I've ever seen!" Meanwhile, the elderly man, also radiant with joy, returned to his home. His son was stunned by the look of peace on his face and he asked, "Dad, what did you do today that made you so happy?" He replied, "I ate Twinkies in the park with God." However, before his son responded, he added, "You know, he's much younger than I expected." ~author unknown~

Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around. People come into our lives for a reason, a season, or a lifetime. Embrace all equally! Look for God today...he is everywhere!
