Can you see? I sure hope so! If you are not blind and can read this blog today, you are blessed!
According to America Foundation of the Blind, more than 20 million American report experiencing some significant vision loss. Now you should feel doubly blessed!
But, do we use our eyes to "really see"? I have pondered the meanings of the scriptures MANY times....
Matthew 13:16-17 (King James Version)
16But blessed are your eyes, for they see: and your ears, for they hear.
17For verily I say unto you, That many prophets and righteous men have desired to see those things which ye see, and have not seen them; and to hear those things which ye hear, and have not heard them.
I have written about "The Big Picture" previously and I know how important it is to be aware of what is taking place in our lives. I need reminded (constantly it seems!).
Seeing with UNDERSTANDING is the goal. Not just focusing on the "outward, recognizable" parts of our lives...but the "hidden, true self" that abides within, beyond where the 'naked eye' can see...the spiritual soul.
This story sums up the difference in Seeing and Seeing....
Two traveling angels
Two traveling angels stopped to spend the night in the home of a wealthy family.
The family was rude and refused to let the angels stay in the mansion's guest room.
Instead the angels were given a small space in the cold basement. As they made their bed on the hard floor, the older angel saw a hole in the wall and repaired it. When the younger angel asked why, the older angel replied, 'Things aren't always what they seem.'
The next night the pair came to rest at the house of a very poor, but very hospitable farmer and his wife. After sharing what little food they had the couple let the angels sleep in their bed where they could have a good night's rest. When the sun came up the next morning the angels found the farmer and his wife in tears. Their only cow, whose milk had been their sole income, lay dead in the field. The younger angel was infuriated and asked the older angel how could you have let this happen? The first man had everything, yet you helped him, she accused. The second family had little but was willing to share everything, and you let the cow die. 'Things aren't always what they seem,' the older angel replied.
'When we stayed in the basement of the mansion, I noticed there was gold stored in that hole in the wall. Since the owner was so obsessed with greed and unwilling to share his good fortune, I sealed the wall so he wouldn't find it.' 'Then last night as we slept in the farmer’s bed, the angel of death came for his wife. I gave him the cow instead. Things aren't always what they seem.'
True meanings are sometimes hidden. Why would your parents tell you that they think some action/decision is not good for you? That hidden "knowing"... the spiritual eye... the understanding of ALL the facts that for some, stays hidden.
I have been guilty MANY times of wanting to do something and being told "NO" just upset me. BUT, I have always found that if the "No" comes from good instruction (God, Men of God, Godly counsel), that I am kept from SO MUCH HARM by obeying.
Most often, situations and life's little "burps" are working out miracles for our future. Being thankful for the "good and bad" makes everything better... our lives and our hearts.
Open your eyes, the answers are there, they CAN be revealed to you... but you must pray for spiritual interpretation...because to the material eye, life is not fair, and things are not what they seem.
This is beautifully written. I needed to hear this today. Thanks for pouring your guts out. :) Love ya.
